Parameshti Guru

Shri Chembai Vaidhyanatha Bhagavathar (vocalist)

Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar was born into a family of musicians. His great-grandfather Subbaiyar was a recipient of the ‘Ghana Chakratanam', and a golden toda for his singing tanam. Chembai gave his first concert at Ottapalam Krishnan temple in 1905.

Chembai invested a lot of time and energy in teaching and growing his disciples - the likes of TV Gopalakishnan sir, KJ Yesudas sir, the legendary Palghat Mani Iyer and Palani Subramaniya Pillai. He also gave a lot of money to charity and to the Guruvayoorappan temple.

Chembai lost his voice not once but twice and regained it miraculously by the Grace of Lord Guruvayoorappan. His last concert was at the same temple that he gave his first concert.
